Red Hulk: Thinking Cosmic

Dec 30, 09
As posted in Marvel Comic News: By Marc Strom
Jeff Parker brings the Cosmic Hulk Robot into the fray with FALL OF THE HULKS: RED HULK #1.

Bruce Banner's extended family will see the return of a long-lost member-of sorts-in FALL OF THE HULKS: RED HULK #1 on January 27, as writer Jeff Parker and artist Carlos Rodrigues bring the Cosmic Hulk Robot back into the fold!

"Cosmic Hulk has one main job, which will be clear soon when he goes into action," describes Parker of the robot's role in the Fall of the Hulks. "Now he answers to M.O.D.O.K. and Leader."

Created by the legendary Jack Kirby in the pages of 1977's classic ETERNALS #14, the Cosmic Hulk has now fallen into the hands of the Intelligencia, the group of evil geniuses bent on making the Hulks' lives increasingly chaotic.

"If you read FALL OF THE HULKS: ALPHA, you saw it in the Eternals Antarctic stronghold," Parker reminds. "That was one of the things the Intelligencia lifted in their caper down there. Now the key is they have to activate it again."

And according to Parker, the Hulks shouldn't underestimate their robotic counterpart.

"The tendency would be to say 'well, he's just a robot, break him,'" remarks the writer. "But as you'll see in FALL OF THE HULKS: RED HULK #1, we reveal the nature of this synthetic being, and it becomes apparent that this is easier said than done. If you liked some of the reveals of Marvel history we did in ALPHA, you'll enjoy the back story that goes with Cosmic Hulk."

Beyond reintroducing the Cosmic Hulk Robot, RED HULK will delve deeper into the plans of its titular crimson behemoth.

"This is where we start pulling back the curtain and let readers see what Red has been up against and more of what drives him," promises Parker. "He's not so much in control of events as he has a lot of hard-won knowledge about it all, and is hustling as fast as he can to steer [them] to his own goals."

FALL OF THE HULKS: RED HULK will also provide a greater backdrop to the events occurring in INCREDIBLE HULK and HULK beginning in January.

"You'll get more sense of the real dynamics at play, and the players on the board, some meaty character stuff as we look behind everyone's game face," notes Parker, before listing a few characters fans can expect to see. "A-Bomb! Thundra! Guys with really, really big heads!"

But with his name in the title, the Red Hulk will definitely steer the course of the series, and Parker teases that it's a direction not everyone would expect.

"When you see who [Red] teams up with, you'll start to Hulk out yourself. It becomes clear that he will do whatever is necessary to win."

Two Monthly Hulk Comics Starting August 2009

Aug 26, 09
Since August 26, 2009, there are two montly Hulk comics: Incredible Hulk (by writer Greg Pak and artist Ariel Olivetti), and Hulk (by writer Jeph Loeb and artist Ian Churchill).

Incredible Hulk is the main Hulk comic, and depicts the stories about Bruce Banner (who cannot turn into the Hulk at the moment), and his son Skaar, born in planet Sakaar during the Planet Hulk saga (by Pak).

Hulk is the secondary Jade Jaws comic but with stories about Rulk, the Red Hulk.

The last time there were two monthly comics of the Strongest One There Is was a decado ago (in 1999) when Incredible Hulk and The Rampaging Hulk Vol.2 were coming out. But the Rampaging title only lasted for six issues.

I hope that this time, there will be two Hulk books for a long. As of the time of this article, it is sure that "Hulk" will come out at least until November 2009. Visit the Upcoming Comics page for more details.

Introducing the Red She-Hulk!

Jul 27, 09
As posted in Marvel News: Debuting in October's HULK #16, Red She-Hulk will begin her rampage through the Marvel Universe in a not-to-be-missed story.

"She was always in the mix," writer Jeph Loeb reveals of the character's conception. "The success of the Jen Walter's She-Hulk-one of my favorite characters-opened the door to do a counterpart. But we didn't do it to just do it. [INCREDIBLE HULK writer] Greg Pak and I worked it out so she will play an integral role in what's to come. She might even be the most important character in the upcoming [World War Hulks] epic."

Loeb wouldn't say whether or not fans would have to wait long for the revelation of Red She-Hulk's true identity, but when they do, it will have major repercussions for the larger story in the writer's HULK run so far.

"That would be telling," Loeb teases. "But, what I can say is her origin is critical to everything we've been doing."

Just as the Red Hulk has made a lasting mark on the larger Marvel Universe, Loeb hopes that the character's female counterpart will stick around for a long time to come.

"We've been very careful with the creation of this character," the writer explains. "We wanted to make sure she didn't come off as silly-my memory of the introduction to [the original] She-Hulk-before anyone had read a page. But the character was a completely different take on the Hulk, a Hulk we'd never seen before. Jen is a wonderful character. Our intention is [that] Red She-Hulk will make an equally important impression on the Marvel Universe.

"Red Hulk could've been a character who appeared for a few issues, like Harpy or Rick Jones' 'Teen Hulk,' [but] Red has stuck. Our hope is that Red She-Hulk will be around for some time too."

As to just how the Red Hulk will respond to the latest addition to the gamma-irradiated family, fans will just have to wait and see.

"That's part of what's to come," hints Loeb. "The way Greg and I have laid it out, our hope is that just when you figured out what we've been up to-and, more specifically, what Red She-Hulk has been up to-you'll be very surprised."

Once again, Loeb promises fans that the new Red She-Hulk will be "at the core" of the larger ongoing storyline, and that she will surprise more than a few readers.

"She's quite feral in a way. Super into what she's getting to do. I think of her as Kathleen Turner's character in 'Body Heat,' Maddy Walker. Just when you think you know her-it's too late. You're dead."

Hulk Comic Not Doing Well In Sales

Jul 25, 09
As posted in Wizard Magazine: In its "Shop Talk" section, Wizard Magazine informs that sales on the Hulk comic (written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by several artists) have dropped, and why.

"Starting off hot with a ton of buzz and excitement over the new red and improved Hulk, the series since then has been plagued by delays and a storyarc that's gone from exciting to lagging-with sales taking a serious hit as a result."

Interviewed comic book retailers say that their customers drop off the title in high percentages, mainly because they're turned off by the fact that the identity of the Red Hulk has not yet been revealed (it was hinted that it would by now), and that the schedule keeps slipping.

Besides what the magazine says, in boards and forums you may find comments from many Hulk fans who are disappointed, angry, even disgusted by Loeb's work, asking the return of Greg Pak, something that happens since Incredible Hulk #601 (August 2009).

Psych Ward: The Hulk

Oct 7, 08
As posted in Marvel News: From the outset, it should be noted that the majority of this report is based on naturalistic observation of the behemoth creature known as the Hulk. As such, any opinions or diagnoses presented should be taken with some skepticism as for most of the creature's existence, personal interviews and/or sessions were not a possibility or were rejected by it.

The Hulk is a humanoid of immense size. His skin tone has fluctuated, over the years, between green and grey. Reports of a red hued Hulk are being ignored for the sake of this report as a colleague, Dr. Leonard Sampson, reports that the green/grey Hulk and the red Hulk are not one and the same. The writer defers to Dr. Sampson in this area as he is considered to be the leading expert on the Hulk, with the exception of Dr. Bruce Banner.

In addition to his varying skin color, the client has also exhibited a wide range of dress and personal hygiene. In early sessions, it favored little by way of grooming and was most often dressed in a seemingly endless supply of purple pants. Upon resuming the grey skin tone it initially possessed, the Hulk began to favor finer clothes, such as tailored suits. Eventually, the Hulk once more returned to green. This time, however, he seemed to be more aware of himself and, while not embracing the fashion forward stylings of his grey side, he was significantly more likely to wear appropriate amounts of clothing in the proper size. There were noted fluctuations with this until the Hulk disappeared for several weeks. Upon the client's return, during the invasion of New York that has been dubbed "World War Hulk," it favored armor and tribal style dressings.
